As you move into your storage space, make a simple drawing that shows where items are placed.
Protect your furniture, including mattresses and box springs, with covers designed for that item.
Make the best use of your storage space by stacking to the ceiling. Put heaviest items on the bottom.
Optimize your space.
Break down any furniture that has removable legs, leaves, or other parts. Stack chairs seat to seat with towels or blankets between them.
Drain the tank
Empty all gas tanks of lawnmowers or other gas powered equipment as this will prevent unpleasant odors in your unit.
Use your refrigerator or other appliances to store items. Remember to wedge the door just a little to allow air to circulate inside them.
Leave a little space between the walls of your unit and stored items to allow air flow.
Keep an extra emergency preparedness kit in your storage unit. If your home is inaccessible, you will have a second supply source.
